U.S. Immigration Attorney to Speak at Inaugural Nuts and Bolts Conference and PSOJ /Cable and Wireless Jamaica Job Creation Awards

Kingston, Jamaica, October 16, 2007: – The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ), in association with attorney-at-law, Dahlia Walker-Huntington, and the Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS), will be staging the inaugural seminar on the Nuts and Bolts of Business Expansion into the US Market, to take place on November 21, 2007. As many Jamaican companies seek to expand their businesses overseas in an effort to stimulate growth in Jamaica and by extension the Caribbean, and as the Caribbean attempts to position itself within the global economy, this seminar is both timely and relevant.

The seminar is geared towards business people in Jamaica who want to explore expanding their businesses into the United States, and will highlight US immigration requirements, tax and accounting regulations for both Jamaica and the USA, entity creation, and the necessary permits that must be clearly understood before setting up a business in the United States

Mrs. Walker-Huntington will be the main presenter at the Conference, along with fellow Florida attorney-at-law, Oliver Langstadt and CPA Leary Mullings. Walker-Huntington and Mullings operate both in Florida and Jamaica.

“In my experiences as an attorney, I have come across many individuals both here and abroad who are desirous of expanding their businesses overseas, but are not legally aware of what is needed to do so,” said Walker-Huntington, who is also the host of Your Legal Corner on Power 106. “We hope that this conference will be able to provide interested individuals with all the information they may need to take their businesses to the next level,” she added.
According to PSOJ CEO, Mrs. Sandra Glasgow, when the PSOJ received the proposal from Dahlia Walker-Huntington to hold this seminar, they were immediately interested. “As the world’s economic, cultural and social systems become increasingly integrated and as trading activities increase and new technologies arise, this seminar will provide increased options for Jamaican business professionals and small businesses to expand and export their services,” continued Glasgow.
Leesa Kow, Acting Marketing, Promotions and Sales Executive, at JNBS, concurred, adding, “We at Jamaica National have already established a credible network of companies in the USA and Canada,” Ms. Kow pointed out, “and, we understand the nuances of doing business via entities such as Jamaica National Overseas (USA) and Jamaica National Overseas (Canada) in that context; hence, our support for the Nuts & Bolts Conference, which can increase the awareness of other local businesses to take advantage of positioning Brand Jamaica in highly lucrative niche markets.”

Excerpts from the Conference will be broadcasted on Hi-Class Promotions of WAVS 1170AM Radio in Florida, and this will give an added boost to the Conference, as it will enable Jamaican business owners to forge business ties with the Caribbean Diaspora overseas.

Other sponsors of the Nuts and Bolts Conference include : Power 106/Music 99 FM, and the Jamaica Observer.

In addition to the Nuts and Bolts Conference, Mrs. Walker-Huntington will be the guest speaker at the PSOJ/Cable and Wireless Jamaica Job Creation Awards, scheduled to take place October 23 at the Terra Nova Hotel.
