NEW YORK (JIS) – Tuesday, August 15, 2006
A Jamaican woman was found dead in her apartment here in New York and the community is asking for help in ensuring a decent burial.
JIS News understands that Vyris Campbell also know as Miss Millie and is originally from the district of Glengoffe in St. Catherine, was found dead in her apartment at Sydney Avenue, Mt. Vernon, New York, on Thursday, August 10, 2006.
The Mt. Vernon Police who are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Campbell’s death, have so far ruled out foul play. A source close to the investigation hinted that the death might be weather related and that the elder woman may have succumbed to the heat, which blanketed and baked the city over the last two weeks.
Reverend Samuel Simpson of the Bronx Clergy Coalition and Hyacinth Broomfield also of the Bronx have joined forces to help and to ensure that Campbell’s body be given a decent burial as she has no known relatives here in the US.
According to Ms. Broomfield, without the help of the community, the police will have no choice but to inter Campbell’s body in Potters Row, NY.
To help, you may call Rev. Sam Simpson at 718-325-8711, Ms. Broomfield at 718-324-3580 and the JIS New York office at 212-935-7506.
