JAMAICA’S 2004 SPORTSWOMAN OF THE YEAR REACHES OUT TO NEW YORK’S YOUNG TRACK & FIELD RUNNERS

WHAT: The Consul General of Jamaica, New York, Dr. Basil K. Bryan, the Jamaica Tourist Board, and members of New York’s Caribbean community will be officially welcoming Olympic gold medalist and Jamaica’s 2004 Sportswoman of the year, Veronica “VC” Campbell to New York with a brief ceremony. Hosted by communications firm jamroppo, the event is being held in celebration of Campbell’s participation in the 99 th Annual Millrose Games at Madison Square Gardens, where she will square off against America’s 2005 World Champion 100-meter runner Lauryn Williams in the 60-meter competition in what has been dubbed the “Olympic and World Championship rematch… Who is really the World’s Fastest Woman?”

“We’re pleased to host another Olympian here in New York,” says Tony King, Jamaica Tourist Board Regional Director. “The Board is confident that she will demonstrate what is truly the Genius of Jamaican Sports.”

“Veronica brought tears to my eyes, screaming, watching her run during the Olympics,” says Cathy Kleinhans, CEO of jamroppo. “She exudes the best of what Jamaica is all about, and makes me proud to be Jamaican.”

At the event Campbell will also be presenting complimentary Millrose tickets to a number of budding track and field athletes in New York, including members of the Awesome Power Track Club, a youth organization dedicated to fostering academic success, sportsmanship, and management skills in female track and field athletes.
