The Victoria Jubilee Hospital (VJH) is to benefit from part of the proceeds of the inaugural Guardian Group 5K Night Run, which will take place on the streets of New Kingston on Saturday June 21 at 7 p.m.

The hospital serves more than 70,000 patients annually and currently has an average of 8,000 deliveries each year.

Speaking at the event launch held at the Corporate Offices of Guardian Life on Friday, May 2, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Kingston Public Hospital/Victoria Jubilee Hospital (VJH), Beulah Stevens said the funds would be used “to procure equipment to facilitate critical quality care, equipment such as patient monitors, blood pressure machines and infant warmers”.

She informed the gathering that VJH is the final referral centre for women across the island with life threatening conditions relating to reproductive and gynaecological disorders.

The CEO expressed gratitude to the title sponsor for selecting VJH as one of the beneficiaries, noting that the team welcomed the assistance in ensuring optimal patient care.

“Our goal is to transform VJH into a world class health care institution. In order to achieve this vision, we need the support of partners like Guardian Group. We rely on our partners to lend a helping hand in our quest to provide quality health care to the people of this nation,” she stated.

She added that the institution “remains dedicated to a mission that values the sanctity of life and places the highest priority on treating every woman with dignity during her birthing experience”.

Services offered at the hospital include family planning, antenatal care, labour and delivery, post-natal and neonatal care, and gynaecological and cancer care.

The event will be held under the theme ‘Keep It Alive’ and is expected to raise $12 million.
