Over 80 children and staff of the SOS Children Village in Tamarac will be able to attend the 10th annual Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival, on Sunday, November 13 at Markham Park in Sunrise, for a day of fun, food and culture, compliments of The Victoria Mutual Building Society (VMBS) Florida Representative Office.
The children will be admitted free to the event and hosted in the Kidz Zone by VMBS, where they will enjoy activities such as the bounce house, rock climbing wall and face painting. They will also be treated to a delightful puppet show and see magic happen right before their eyes by a magician with more than a few tricks up his sleeve.
“Victoria Mutual considers this a part of our corporate social responsibility in which we may provide the children of the SOS Children’s Village the opportunity to not only be a part of this festival, but to enjoy themselves in the Kidz Zone. Research data indicates that playfulness helps children to be more inventive, smart, happy, flexible and resilient and as such, Victoria Mutual is excited to play a part in their development,” articulated Suzette Rochester, Manager of the VMBS Florida Representative office.
In addition to the activities in the Kidz Zone, the children will also be entertained by presentations on the Western Union Stage such as the skit: “Out of Many One People”, which promises to be representative of the Jamaican ethnic mix. Performers, through poetry, song and dance will give the kids a taste of the many ethnicities that comprise Jamaica and the unique cultures that come together to form the island’s melting pot. They will also get to root for finalists of the Digicel Rising Stars competition on the Digicel Stage.
“We are delighted to partner with VMBS and host the kids from the SOS Children’s Village,” said Eddy Edwards, chairman of Jamaican Jerk Festival USA, Inc., the organizers of the event. “Children are our future and we need to invest in their welfare and support their cultural growth and development by allowing them every opportunity to experience an event such as the Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival.”
The Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival attracts well over 18,000 patrons annually and has become a premier event for South Floridians. It’s the event where Caribbean nationals and thousands from other ethnicities meet each year not just for the food and fun, but for the reunions and camaraderie that the event inspires.
