SuperKids, a Great Shape! Inc. literacy empowerment project, needs more volunteers! SuperKids travels to Jamaica to teach children to read at an appropriate level and all about sports, music, art and computer literacy.
In Jamaica, the literacy rate is only 40%. That means that 6 out of 10 children aren’t reading at a basic level. Reading is the most important building block in a child’s education. You can help provide children with the building blocks for an education and a career!
In Jamaica, a student cannot attend school without a uniform. However, uniforms are expensive and families often can’t afford them. SuperKids brings money to purchase uniforms. You can bring a child one step closer to their education by providing a uniform!
In Jamaica, many schools are underfunded. These schools can’t afford sports, music, or art programs. Many rural schools also don’t have computers. As part of a Sport, Music, Art or Computer team with SuperKids you can help bring a child closer to extracurricular passions and improve their computer literacy!
Educators, students, and anyone who just loves children can volunteer. And that includes…YOU!
Join a group of great volunteers and come to Ochos Rios with SuperKids. Volunteers are still needed for the 2nd week of the project, November 14th through the 22nd. This is your chance to change the lives of hundreds!
SuperKids is just one of three Great Shape! projects that travel to Jamaica every year. iCare, a pioneer vision project, served over 1,860 Jamaicans this past September. 1000 Smiles, a dental project, will travel to Jamaica for three sessions of service this fall. Great Shape! is a non-profit started in Ashland, OR.
