VP Records, the leading Caribbean music label, and Soundrop, the social listening app for Spotify, partner to launch a one-stop reggae destination that brings both hardcore fans and casual listeners together for a shared streaming experience. Users have an open forum in the interactive room, entitled Golden Jubilee: 50 Years of Jamaican Music, where they can comb through the genre’s extensive catalog, discover music together and join in on live artist chats.
2012 marks Jamaica’s 50th Anniversary of Independence, so this room arrives at an imperative time to pay homage to the innovation and evolution of the island’s music. In celebration of the launch, VP Records will premiere a select 70-track playlist every Thursday over the next four weeks in the Golden Jubilee: 50 Years of Jamaican Music room. The first set includes the most pivotal rocksteady, ska and roots & culture hits from the 60s and 70s era. An exclusive reggae and dancehall selection of the 80s and 90s era will be unveiled next week, while the following week will feature the most contemporary sounds from 2000 until now. The last selection will be a carefully selected mix of hits from all the different playlists.
In order to chat, users will need to log in to Soundrop with a Facebook or Twitter account.
