Dancehall star, producer, and all-around Jamaican music legend DEMARCO exterminates bad vibes in the video for weekend warrior anthem “Dance My Stress Away” featuring reggae icon Stephen Marley. Watch HERE.
Inspired by those after-work cooldowns and weekend wile outs that keep us sane, “Dance My Stress Away” is an anthem sure to resonate with anyone ready to let loose after a long week on the job. Produced by DEMARCO himself, the track’s irie, guitar-driven vibes represent a departure from the hardcore dancehall tracks and R&B-flavored island pop the artist is known for.
DEMARCO also directed the clip, which sees him in character as the owner of Demarco’s Pest Control, a blue-collar businessman who works hard all week so he can play harder all weekend. Follow DEMARCO on Instagram at @DemarcoDaDon for more of the Bun Up Boss’ adventures in extermination.
“Dance My Stress Away” is set to appear on Melody, DEMARCO’s debut album, coming Oct. 22 through California’s Ineffable Records, with features from Sean Paul, Shaggy, Spice, Sarkodie, Konshens, Ky-mani Marley and more TBA.
Melody, named after both DEMARCO’s newborn daughter and the melodic sensibilities that define the album, arrives over a decade after he first burst onto the dancehall circuit with his breakthrough single, “Fallen Soldiers.” That track kicked off an iconic run of dancehall classics from Demarco including “Duppy Know Who Fi Frighten,” “She Can’t Wait,” and the Rihanna-endorsed “I Love My Life” and “Puppy Tail.”
Beyond the genre, DEMARCO has teamed with Akon and Runtown on the cross-continental afrobeats smash “No Wahala,” collaborated with Busta Rhymes, Giggs and Jim Jones, and is reported to be among the songwriters on Rihanna’s long-rumored dancehall album. Behind the scenes, he’s produced some of modern dancehall’s most iconic riddims as well as Charly Black’s “Gyal You a Party Animal,” the latest dancehall track to be certified Gold by the RIAA, and the first song by a Jamaican artist to be certified Diamond in Latin America. Adding video director to his well-rounded résumé, he’s helmed clips for Spice, Vybz Kartel and Shaggy, among others.
