Western Union I P.L.E.D.G.E Programme 2012 To Host A Reading Room At The Anancy Festival In Pembroke Pines, Florida, June 9, 2012

Western Union will host a reading room on Saturday June 9th, 2012 at the Anancy Festival 2012 in Pembroke Pines, Florida as a part of the I P.L.E.D.G.E PROGRAMME 2012. The reading room will include storytelling by Geoffrey Philp and Father Easton Lee, two popular authors in the Jamaica Diaspora community in South Florida.

I P.L.E.D.G.E (I Promise to Lend Encouragement to Develop Growth in Education) PROGRAMME 2012 is an initiative of GraceKennedy Money Services (GKMS) through the brand Western Union that started from 2004.  The programme seeks to support the development of education through a focus on improving literacy, particularly reading.

Western Union I P.L.E.D.G.E is a multi-faceted programme which has been endorsed by the Ministry of Education, to strengthen the reading and literacy skills of our children. The patron of the programme is Her Excellency, the Most Honourable Lady Allen, wife of the Governor General of Jamaica.

The Anancy Festival 2012 will be held  in five cities  from the USA to Jamaica to Kenya on Saturday, June 9th, 2012.. The event takes place in the following five cities: Pembroke Pine, Florida; Orlando, Florida; Washington D.C.; Nairobi, Kenya; Kingston, Jamaica. The event will be simulcast and delayed video broadcasted between each city giving attendees an opportunity to see performances at different locations.

The Anancy Festival, named for Anansi, the West African trickster of folklore, is a celebration of Caribbean-American culture that’s geared toward children and teens. The festival provides a unique way for youngsters to learn about their cultural heritage and experience a rich collection of stories, music and dance.
