This was taken off the hillside around Flagstaff in St. James. It was formerly the site of Trelawny Town (yes – it is in St. James) – the home of the Trelawny Maroons.
After the Second Maroon War these Maroons were ‘deported’ to Nova Scotia in Canada, and the British built a military outpost in the area, which became known as Flagstaff. (Julian and his former employers worked on a heritage tourism project at Flagstaff, although it is not certain if this is still up and running).
