Canadian based YOUTH DAY is coming to JAMAICA on JANUARY 24, 2015!

KPYO for YOUTH DAY is proud to announce that its 8 year successful FREE family festival for young aspiring artists created in Toronto is being hosted at Dump-Up Beach in downtown Montego Bay, Jamaica on January 24, 2015 from 11:00am to 11:00pm.

“It is so gratifying that with the keen insight of Mayor Glendon Harris of Montego Bay, and the support of The Ministry of Tourism, The Kiwanis Club International, Jamaican Diaspora – Canada Foundation (JDCF) and the Jamaican Canadian Association (JCA), that we all together and unanimously recognize the value and benefit of the arts for our children’s self expression and development for a bright future. Our Volunteer Team with so many local supporters in the Parishes are thrilled to bring this unique celebration to Youth in Jamaica this exciting New Year” says Tylaine Duggan, founder of YOUTH DAY.

YOUTH DAY was created in Canada in 2007 to engage young people, and help them find a passion in MUSIC, DANCE, ART, PHOTOGRAPHY, FASHION and FILM. The initiative focuses them during the year towards a goal, and at the festival, allows them to showcase their positive achievements across 2 outdoor stages and at a Youth Gallery in front of some 30,000 visitors – all applauding their efforts and building self-esteem in the kids.

Scott Mills of Crime Stoppers International comments: “YOUTH DAY celebrates the success and safety of our community. I have supported Tylaine Duggan and her team in their efforts to engage youth for success in my capacity as a Toronto Police officer and as a representative of Crime Stoppers Programs worldwide. YOUTH DAY reaches people we as police officers seldom reach at all. YOUTH DAY is inclusive of all people; changing and improving lives.”

While attention is gradually growing internationally towards youth and statistics for our next generation, Duggan is eager to expand beyond these continents to include Europe next year. President Andrea Scarlett, President of Kiwanis Club International in Hopewell Jamaica comments; “Kiwanis is about changing children’s lives and YOUTH DAY Jamaica is a grand opportunity to positively impact the lives of our talented Jamaican youths.”

Tylaine adds; “In my years scouting across the world for the future growth of the YOUTH DAY platform, I identified the same commonalities; A lack of youth activities; a lack of youth engagement in view of budget cuts, and all resulting in negative affects we too often hear about.

Reflected in our own planet’s history, it was indeed the civilizations that invested in the youth and arts that thrived and were the most creative outlets that provided us with historical figures such as poets, memorable artists and music legends. Then why not let the community with astute like-minded businesses supporting, reinvest in this next generation. It is the YD Mandate – as we can all do something and it behooves us all to do so – BE PART OF IT.”
