Odds are you’ve either been to or at least heard of Dunn’s River Falls.

But what about YS Falls?

Situated in St. Elizabeth, YS Falls is a 7 tiered natural waterfall hidden on a working cattle and horse farm and the first stop on our south coast road trip. Here’s my review of the day…

We knew we were almost there once we reached Bamboo Avenue, a 2 mile stretch where bamboo forms an archway above the road.

A couple more twists and turns through what reminded me of the fields and woods of south Georgia and we arrived at the ticket office. After paying our entree fee ($JA 1500 for 3 of us), we boarded our chariot…a tractor pulled jitney.

It took us about 10 minutes to make it across the YS Estates to the falls. On the way down, we sat on the first row. If you don’t want to get splattered with mud, you might want to take row two or behind.

We walked up the wooden stairs along the waterfall until signage and a barricade prevented us from going any further. Each tier of the falls welcomed us with cool refreshing water and a life guard on duty for those just OK swimmers, like me. There is a changing room at the falls, but no lockers. We left our phones, cameras, clothes, towels, etc in our bags by the lifeguard before jumping in. No one messed with a thing.

While swimming around the falls, I kept bumping into this dude with his brand new GoPro HD Hero2 camera mounted atop his head. All I could think was how cool; I want one. It didn’t dawn on me until after we left that he’d be going home with a ton of crotch and batty shots as a part of his YS Falls memories.

To finish up our day at the falls, we lazed around natural pool where we were serenaded by a chorus of screams and laughs from the folks on the canopy tour above us. All in all, I couldn’t have asked for a better day with the homies.
