POWELL TAKES SECOND PLACE AT BOSTON MEET—02/08/15
Jamaica’s Asafa Powell, a former record-holder in the 100 meters, took second place in the 60 meter competition at the Boston Indoor Grand Prix. First place went to Trell Kimmons who ran the distance in 6.51 seconds. Powell’s time was 6.52 seconds, while coming in third was Michael Rodgers with 6.53 seconds. Kimmons and Rodgers are both from the United States.

GUYANA DEFEATS JAMAICA IN PCL CRICKET—02/09/15
Jamaica was beaten by 105 runs in a victory for the Guyana Jaguars on the fourth day of the WICB Professional Cricket League match. The scores in the match were Guyana 314 and 202, while Jamaica achieved 177 and 234. This was only Jamaica’s second defeat by Guyana in a four-day match in the past ten years.

BOLT TO RUN IN PARIS DIAMOND LEAGUE—02/11/15
Jamaica’s sprint champion Usain Bolt will run the 100-meter race at the Paris Diamond League competition in July 2015. Bolt, a six-time Olympic champion will be racing in France for the first time in his career and the first time in the 100-meters since 2010. He holds the world record in the 100 and 200-meter distances.

WILLIAMS PROMOTING SKIING FOR JAMAICANS—02/12/15
Jamaican skier Michael Williams says he was inspired and motivated by the island’s bobsled team to become a ski racer. Although it took him 20 years to realize his dream, Williams, 45, will race in the giant slalom and slalom events in Beaver Creek. He says that Usain Bolt may be the fastest man on land, but that he is the fastest Jamaican on the snow. He currently lives in Germany, but has Jamaican heritage on his mother’s side. He did not begin skiing until 2011.
