Magnum Kings And Queens Of Dancehall: Top Twenty

After auditions in Montego Bay, Portmore, May Pen, Ocho Rios and Kingston, The competition now turns to the live show stage and here are the twenty lucky princes and princesses.

Name: Marvia McLeod 
AKA: Mysterious
Hometown: Mt Salem, St James
A graduate of Cambridge High School in 2002, this young Princess has always been writing music. She relates that she would perform at her high school at various events and used that opportunity to hone her craft. She reveals that she entered the competition because it gives contestants a chance to show the world their talent. An ardent fan of Vybz Kartel and Beenie Man, Mysterious hopes that one day she too can reach their level of stardom. 
 
Name: Rushelle Green
AKA: Reggae Queen
Hometown: Porto Bello, St James
Also a second timer, Reggae Queen did not make the top ten last season, but pledges that 2010 will be her year. This deejay describes herself as versatile and lyrical. She started deejaying to classmates in grade 9 and wowed students of the Mt Alvernia High School when she performed at school events. Reggae Queen wants to take her music to the next level while gaining experience from the competition. A big fan of Vybz Kartel, she tries to emulate his lyrical prowess in her songs and hopes she too can one day have even half of his fan base. She says her community of Porto Bello in St James accepts her as a deejay, supports her to the fullest and will be voting en-masse to ensure she becomes this year’s Magnum Queen of Dancehall.
 
Name: Duane Besentie
AKA: Chozenn
Hometown: Spanish Town, St Catherine
Chozenn wants to be chosen as a finalist on Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall. This deejay from Spanish town says he is overwhelmed by being accepted by the competition and sees it as a life changing opportunity. He started deejaying at the Frankfield Primary School and continued to Linstead Junior High. He says that the community of Lime Tree Grove is 100% behind him and expects him to reach the live shows. Chozenn wants to make a major impact on the industry as a major act and will borrow inspiration from his friend now deceased who encouraged him to begin music. Now he looks to I-Octane and Assassin as his idols.  
 
Name: Dewayne Elliott
AKA: Elliott
Hometown: Ironshore, S James
Elliot started Deejaying at Flankers Primary and Junior High School in 2004. The young Deejay credits Beenie Man as his favorite artiste and is inspired by his style and entertaining quality. Elliot entered Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall because he feels it’s the best way to connect with the people and show his talent. Confessing his undying love for dancehall, he wants to take the music to another level. Elliot says he comes with some positive lyrics and wants to show Jamaica that there is immense talent that needs to be unearthed.
 
Name: Jeanette Morris
AKA: Posh
Hometown: Rollington Twn, Kingston
A past student of the Alpha Academy she claims the school and the Church of God Faith Assembly In Franklyn Town helped her hone her talent. Posh chose the song ‘Wife Roun’ Here’ because it’s a hot topic. She says it has a message that will appeal to a lot of women as well as men who are real. She entered Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall: “because I want my music out there, I need my music out there and this is the best way to do that”.  If Posh wins fans can expect her to continue in the music and in five years she hopes she will be touring, and collecting numerous awards. Posh says she was excited at the Portmore Auditions and thrived on the energy of Miss kitty because of her vibe which gave her a push to succeed.
 
Name: Fay Campbell
AKA: Lady Hunter
Hometown: Fletchers Land, Kingston
A resident of Fletchers Land, Lady Hunter says that her community members believes in her and are voting for her in earnest. A native of Clarendon she entered the competition because she wants to get her chance at stardom. She believes she will win as she has the talent and will use the winnings to invest in it. A follower of Etana and Lady Saw, Lady Hunter credits Saw as her main inspiration. She says that when she took the stage in Portmore she was a bit nervous but did what she had to do and felt that it worked. Now Lady Hunter feels confident of going on to the next round.
 
Name: Otis Ellis
AKA: Beego Blood
Hometown: Portsmouth, St.Catherine
He entered the competition because he feels that it’s the best ways to get exposure for deejays and sing-jays. ‘Beego Blood’ auditioned for the last two seasons  but now has finally broken through. Pledging readiness for the live shows he believes that he is mentally prepared, rehearsed and has a large catalogue of tunes. Both a deejay and a sing-jay, ‘Beego Blood says he is rounded but mostly goes for cultural types of music. He is inspired by Super Cat and sees him as an intelligent and stylistic artiste.
 
Name: Andrew Lobban
AKA: Junior Lobban
Hometown: Central Village, Kingston
After years of trying to break into the music business, Junior sees Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall as a way for people know him. He says he focuses on good music and wants to uplift the people with strong messages and positivity. He says Central Village accepts his music and recognizes his talent and he has sang on several shows over the years including at the  National Stadium for the reggae boys in 1998. The artiste says he has been performing from his days at Spanish Town High School and if he wins would like to help his family, invest some of the money and donate to Haiti. 
 
Name: Saneisha Graham
AKA: Gallawas
Hometown: James Hill, Clarendon
This artiste’s song Zoo Truck was a big hit with the audience in May Pen. She entered the competition to show her talent and says her name shows the kind of lyrics she has in her arsenal. She loves Lady Saw and tries to emulate her and sees herself in five years collecting a Grammy while being on top of the Dancehall world. 

Name: Mickala Williams
AKA: DJ Mary
Hometown: Old Harbour, St Catherine
DJ Mary entered Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall because she loves music to the highest extreme. The artiste from St Catherine says it’s not all about the money; although a million dollars would help her and her mother who vends on the street. She says her mother has a hard time with the police who sometimes seize her goods. DJ Mary is a fan of Lady Saw and hopes to reach similar heights as her musical idol. This is her second year trying out for competition and she believes her image will help her succeed in the business but her lyrics will help her more as she has substance.
 
Name: Rayon Johnson
AKA: Terro Prince
Hometown: Spanish. Twn, St Catherine
A past student of Eltham High School Terro prince has been sinjaying since grade nine. He believes that he has what it takes to win the crown and says he needs this as a great achievement in his life. Terro hopes that he can make himself more comfortable using the music as his stepping stone and knows music is his career. A follower of Beres Hammond and Mavado, the artiste says his music is different and creative and he just wants the opportunity bring a change to the business; moving it away from violence to more positivity.  
 
Name: Junior Henry
AKA: Tanto Blacks
Hometown: Spanish. Town, St Catherine

From the year 2007 this artiste has been trying to get through to win the main prize of 1 millions dollars. Tanto Blacks says he entered the competition because it has helped him the get exposure. He wants his music out there so he can get paid. Blacks confesses that he doesn’t have a good education and wants to send himself back to school and knows that Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall is the best way forward. The spirited Deejay says he has been performing since the age of ten but did not learn to read until he attended Jamal now called
Jamaican Foundation for Lifelong Learning (JFLL). Tanto Blacks is not ashamed of his struggles and says Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall is the best way for him to make it out of the poverty:“ People know me now, Magnum mek people know mi, so mi can never lef out Magnum kings and Queens (of Dancehall) cause magnum bigger than me”. He says he likes Elephant Man and believes that his style while different has some elements of that artiste: “Mi have the swagger, the energy and the ability to give the people joy and mi know seh mi ago tek it dis year, Budget!”.
 
Name: Kemelee Swaby
AKA: Bumpa
Hometwon: St Andrew
A telephone operator she hopes to connect with the audience and win them over. Bumpa as she calls herself entered the competition to get her big break. The artiste has been singing since 2004 and has entered other competitions without success. After making the top ten in Portmorelast year she did not advance to TV round. She is a fan of Lady Saw and Spice because their lyrics are good and their performances are electric. She says she is a versatile artiste, with a funky flavor  who is ready for the big stage. 
 
Name: Rochelle Simpson
AKA: Blackberry
Hometown: Portmore, St Catherine
This Fully Loaded female deejay has big plans for the competition and has been busy campaigning to win. She wants the exposure provided by Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall and has been in the business for a long time trying to get a buss. She hopes the people will accept her because she is talented and wants Jamaica to see that. Blackberry got her name from Len Hammond who she used to follow. Now she is on her own and wants to take her music global as music is universal
 
Name: Joseph Bryan
AKA: Summs
Hometown: Hayes, Clarendon
He did not get though in Mobay  and  May Pen but was successful at the Ocho Rios auditions. This artiste has been a deejay from his days Garvey Maceo High School and artiste professes to be very entertaining and stylish. A fan of Mavado and Jah Cure; Summs confesses that his style is a combination of various influences.  IF he wins Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall plans to invest in his career, help family and go back to school. In five years Summs he sees himself as a professional entertainer.
 
Name: Andre Lee
AKA: Dre Blunt
Hometown: Kingston
Dre Blunt says he has been in the music business for years  believes Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall is a good opportunity for 2.5 million people to see him. Claiming to be versatile, Blunt is a topical artiste and tries to push topics that people can identify with: “Mi no have it is a song people can relate to. The song is meant for ladies to be independent and not depend on men and mi believe that is has connected”. Dre Blunt says he grew up listening to Bounty Killer who he grew up listening. He says Bounty stands for and believes what he sings and that why he is a top artiste. “You have to stand for something or you will fall for anything”. The artiste wants his name established worldwide with number one singles and he believes he is ready for the competition and thinks that this year will be his.
 
Name: Samantha Lowe
AKA: Attitude’
Hometown: Wakefield, Trelawny
Attitude was motivated by friend and family who believe in her talent. She says: “I fell in love with the music and felt that the competition is a good way to get exposure”. The Attitude deejay at an early age started singing for the Refuge Temple Pentecostal Choir in Bounty Hall Trelawny and continued at high school. If she wins she wants to continue her music and let people know that her talent is there and she is wiling to work hard.  She says should would not have entered if she felt that she could not win and plans to use the winnings to further her music career and her education.

Name: Alphia Gordon
AKA: Trendy
Hometown: Old Braeton, St Catherine
Trendy says she has passion for music and wants Jamaica and the world to know about her. The dancehall artiste is very outspoken and believes her music speaks about everyday life and social issues that affect people in society. She has been singing for three years and has learnt a lot about the music in that time. Trendy wants to learn more about the business and how to handle herself in it: ”I have the music, the lyrics , the style and the attitude that I think Jamaica wants to see, I think the music business needs somebody like trendy”  Trendy is a fan of D’Angel and says she and the artiste are similar. She says like D’Angel she wants her music to reache out to young people. The resident of Braeton is campaigning hard and expects to do well, if she should goes through to the live Weekendz show.
 
Name: Conroy Rennis
AKA: Press Fyah
Hometown: Buff Bay, Portland
This artiste says music is his life and comes to him naturally. The former footballer wants to support people and be uplift them. He reveals: “mi see nuff ting innah mi community weh mi waan deal wid and mi waan set a way fi certain infrastructure develop”. The Fire Fighter by occupation says his music is cultural and seeks to teach people: “You have to be creative and you as the artiste have to deliver”.  “Because conscious artistes are not delivering other slack artistes take over, it is up to us to set the trend” Says the deejaying Fireman. Fyah would like to use any success from the competition to further his education and work to make life better for his four year old son. This past student of Titchfield High School wants to buss big.
 
Name:  Dayne Lewis
AKA: Gibraltar’
Hometown: McCooks Pen, St. Catherine
At the Kingston auditions Miss Kitty had a special eye for this tall talent and Gibraltar has an eye out for the Magnum crown. A past student of Old Harbour High school, he says he has been deejayng since the age of eight and wrote his first song in grade three. If he gets through Gibraltar says he would want to become the best artistes in Jamaica and also be an ambassador for Jamaica’s culture.
